Special Weeks

At JYS, our curriculum is enriched in many varied and exciting ways on a regular basis with trips, outside visitors and themed days/weeks. We plan a themed week each year. Previous themes have included Australian Arts Week, Science Week – with a focus on different types of energy, International Week – which focused on French speaking countries, Carnival Arts Week and 2021 - 22 saw us having a themed week based around a book "The Man on the Moon"!

"Maths in the Real World" - 20th May ~ 24th May 2019

Our theme was maths, but in particular how it is used in the real world. We had parents come in to talk to the children about how they use maths in their jobs. A group of Y6 children wen to Goodwood to see some of the planes and helicopters and we learnt about how maths is used in aviation. Students from Chichester College came in to work pupils in YR, Y1 and Y2. On the Friday, Y1 pupils went to Chichester College to undertake a STEM workshop.
The children also received logons for T T Rockstars, and were also introduced to our Maths Award Scheme.
The week culminated in an open afternoon where parents came in to look at the work the children had been doing.
