Online applications for children starting school in September 2027 open on Monday 5 October 2026.

The deadline for applications is Friday 15 January 2027 at 11:59pm.

National Offer Day for on-time applications is Friday 16 April 2027. Parents and carers will be notified by West Sussex County Council of their allocated school place.

Admissions Information

JYS is a community school maintained by West Sussex County Council.

All admissions to the school, including applications for Reception places and in-year admissions, are administered by West Sussex County Council in accordance with their published admissions arrangements. Parents and carers may express a preference for any school, but places are allocated in line with the local authority's admissions criteria.

Arrangements for the Admission of Disabled Pupils

JYS welcomes applications from all children, including those with disabilities and special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

The school does not discriminate against disabled pupils and admissions are administered by West Sussex County Council in accordance with the School Admissions Code and the Equality Act 2010.

Disabled pupils are admitted using the same admissions criteria as all other applicants. Where a child has a disability, the school will work closely with parents and carers, previous settings, the local authority and relevant professionals to ensure appropriate support and reasonable adjustments are in place to enable a successful transition into school.

This may include:

• Additional transition visits
• Meetings with parents, carers and relevant professionals
• Individual transition or support plans
• Reasonable adjustments to the physical environment, curriculum or resources
• Consideration of specialist equipment where appropriate

In-Year Admissions

Applications for places outside the normal Reception intake are known as in-year admissions.

As a maintained school, all in-year applications are administered by West Sussex County Council. Parents and carers wishing to apply for a place during the school year should do so through the local authority using the School Places website linked above.

Where places are available within the relevant year group, applications will be considered in accordance with West Sussex County Council's published admissions arrangements.
