I am a lawyer with many years of experience in crime, youth, family and mental health work. I have previously been both a parent and a co-opted governor at schools attended by my own three children. I now live in Chichester with my wife and my daughter - who is a Teaching Assistant at Jessie Younghusband School. I believe the most important thing we can do as a society is to give our children the best educational start possible; as well as provide a safe, happy and inspirational environment for them to learn in. I want to play my part in supporting Jessie Younghusband with the outstanding work they do.
I’ve been at JYS since 2015, when I moved from my previous school in Worthing to become the Year 6 class teacher here. I am a Staff Governor, acting as a link between different groups of people. I help provide the governing body with an insight into the day-to-day running of the school and also relay any relevant information from governor’s meetings back to the staff.
My professional background is in Education. I have experience across the primary years as a teacher and 12 years of leadership experience as a Deputy Headteacher. I have always been very passionate about my involvement in children’s education and found it incredibly rewarding. I have been involved with Governing Bodies for most of my teaching career.
I look forward to bringing my professional experience to the role of Governor at JYS and actively supporting the school to ensure the best opportunities for the children and school community.
As a parent of a daughter in Year 3 and one in Year 6, I am very pleased to be a Parent Governor, actively working with the other Governors to ensure that our children enjoy every possible opportunity to succeed in a safe, inspirational and supportive environment.
A former officer in the Royal Navy, I have considerable experience in managing, leading and participating in teams, working on numerous projects ranging from setting strategic direction to managing day-to-day activities. I also have an understanding of some of the issues faced by our Service families and have an interest in seeing that their particular needs are represented.
Humphrey Gullett - Co-opted Governor
I work in education as Director of Risk and Compliance for a large multi-academy trust in London, which includes 19 primary schools. I oversee a range of operational and support functions, and want to add value to the school by sharing this experience and expertise.
I believe that every child should have the opportunity to receive an outstanding education and am committed to working with the school leadership and fellow governors to ensure the best outcomes for the children.
I have lived in Chichester for the last 15 years and am married with two young daughters.
Victor Meirinhos - Parent Governor
As a parent of a student in year 4 at JYS, I am very proud to be joining the team of governors that so actively shapes and supports the pedagogic journey of our children.
I work at the Office for National Statistics where I currently lead a large team of Data Scientists and Statisticians producing Official Statistics for England and Wales.
Throughout my academic and professional career, which encompasses extensive experience of learning and teaching in HE, I have consistently implemented a pedagogic strategy which is underpinned, at its core, by research excellence. I have consistently encouraged staff and students to play an essential role in stimulating this interdisciplinary and collaborative culture that drives both world-leading research and research-led teaching.
The development of this work has been profoundly enriching and motivating to me. I hope my passion for teaching and my experience in managing complex projects will contribute to support the excellent work that makes JYS such a special school.
Mrs Chloe Fihl-Pearson - Governor
Having recently moved to Chichester, I am excited to join the governing body of JYS. I have been a teacher, Assistant Head and SENCO for many years in London and am looking forward to bringing my professional experience to the role. I believe that all children deserve exciting learning experiences which help them develop as individuals and I look forward to working with the school community to achieve the best for all pupils.
My professional background is in financial services, developing systems to ensure compliance of investment institutions. I believe there are many aspects of my job that will aid me in this new role: teamwork, information security and the desire for continual improvement.
I look forward to working with the other Governors and school to help provide our children with the education they deserve.
